Couples / Relationship Counseling

“(Relationship) is not a noun; it’s a verb. It isn’t something you get. It’s something you do. It’s the way you love your partner(s) every day”

-Barbara De Angelis

Is there a difference between Marriage Counseling, Couples Counseling, and Relationship Counseling?

While therapist who work with relationships often refer to their work as “Couples Counseling” or “Mariage Counseling”, at Mellowbeing we feel that the term “Relationship Counseling” represents a more inclusive title. Intimate connection(s) in our life can certainly be through the beautiful partnership of marriage. It can also be lovingly dating with or without labels. It can be preparing for the next big step. It can be on its 51st year or its 1st week. Or even its third try over the past several years. What matters to us is that this connection matters to YOU. We are here to respect and support however you identify intimacy in your life.

Is Relationship Counseling Worth it?

We feel you, you have been struggling in your connection, feeling alone in the relationship, feeling unheard, possibly unappreciated, maybe every conversation lately just feels like an argument. You may be wondering how it even got to this point or maybe you have some ideas…you just aren’t sure where to go from here.

Or maybe you are thinking of taking a big step in your relationship and want to mentally and emotionally prepare. You're wondering if therapy would be a good place to start.

So is Relationship Counseling worth the time and money? Well, this all depends on your readiness to put in the work. For most people, successful Relationship Counseling looks like:

  • healing any past wounds

  • developing better communication skills

  • finding your individual strengths as a partnership

  • learning better ways to honor your partner(s) and yourself

And through this, most people find themselves more peaceful, supported, and cared for in their relationship.

If staying together is your goal, we will help you navigate how to make this the most fulfilling option. Relationships are HARD. Breaking up is HARD. Ultimately the growth of you as an individual and as a partner is our goal for your experience.
